Environment Setup

Time to connect to your workshop environment. You will access a browser-based VS Code editor (Code Editor) powered by an Ubuntu Linux instance behind Amazon CloudFront. No downloads, no installs — just open the URL and start coding.

  1. Open AWS Workshop Studio .

  2. Choose your preferred sign-in method. For AWS guided events, choose Email OTP.

  3. Enter your email and press Send passcode.

  4. The one-time password will be emailed to you with the subject Verify your AWS Training and Certification. Copy the passcode into the dialog and choose Sign in.

  5. If prompted, enter the 12-character Event access code received from the event organizer and choose Next.

  6. Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions by selecting I agree with the terms and conditions and choose Join Event.

You will be taken to the event dashboard containing overview information about the event.

  1. Find the Event Outputs panel at the bottom of the event dashboard page.

  2. Click the URL to open VS Code Server in your browser. No password is required — the authentication token is embedded in the URL.

  3. You should now see the Visual Studio Code IDE in your browser.

Security Note

Your Code Editor instance is secured with a unique token embedded in the URL. The environment is isolated to your workshop session and will be automatically cleaned up after the event.

Take a minute to orient yourself:

VS Code in Your Browser — This is where you will spend most of your time. It is already configured with useful extensions for JavaScript/TypeScript development, including the Claude Code extension.

Integrated Terminal — A terminal is automatically opened at the bottom of VS Code, already in the workshop directory. This is where you will run Claude Code.

TaskFlow Dev Server — When you start TaskFlow, it will be accessible through the Code Editor's built-in port forwarding on port 3000.

You have got:

  • A working VS Code editor in your browser
  • AWS credentials configured and verified
  • All tools pre-installed and ready
  • A sense of where everything lives

Let's move on to TaskFlow Setup where we will clone the project and get it running.

Your Code Editor environment has everything pre-installed. If you are running locally, verify these tools:

ToolMinimum VersionCheck Command
Node.jsv18 or laternode --version
npmv9 or laternpm --version
Claude Code CLILatestclaude --version
GitAny recent versiongit --version

If you have not installed Claude Code yet, run: curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash. Then run claude to authenticate. You will need an Amazon Bedrock connection configured.
